And if you don’t believe me, go play your guitar. (Wait, I’m not finished.) Then go find an Irish song to listen to. Now go play your guitar again. Instant feel increase in your playing. Like hooking up an iv of Irishness to your guitar.
The unfortunate thing about this post is that I’m not even joking at all.
Splendid.
Karl.
P.S. And in case you’re wondering, the answer is yes……I am stalling because I blew a tube in my mic preamp and now I cannot record the rest of the pads tonight until I find one of those six-pointed star screwdriver things. (Why do they do that?) However, that has no bearing whatsoever on the fact that your tone does indeed increase the more Irish you become.
It’s called a torx bit.
I’ll have to try the Irish thing tomorrow.
Plus, I have tickets to U2 in Oakland next June! Hurrah for General Admission!!
This reminds me of the first post I ever read on here where you talked about having a welcome matt on your pedal board for “organic tone”.
Nate–ah, thank you! A torx bit. Think just sheer force with a regular screwdriver might do it? hehe And score on the U2 tickets? We just got ours for Anaheim in June, too! GA…absolutely!
Aaron–okay, now that really did make my tone better!
haha Yikes, I can’t believe I actually admitted to those welcome mats in a post. hehe
You have a tube mic preamp to record a tube guitar amp going through a damage control timeline with tubes in it??? When will the madness end?
Rob, I don’t think you can ever have too many (or is it enough?) tubes. They really are magical little glass jewels.
Karl, if the Ireland thing is true, how come there are Irish bands with horrible tone? (Not U2, I would never in 14 lifetimes dream of thinking of saying such a thing as that.) Bands like The Electrics, and Flogging Molly. Fun to listen to, but man, that tone is just bad!
Karl, Home Depot, or even Walmart should have the driver. Or you can get one of those multi kits for a drill or ratchet, and it should have one too. Good Luck.
Yea, I don’t know about all Irish bands, I have heard some bad ones, and then I have heard some good ones. But because of this site, I have now the constant pain in trying to search for good tone, and listening more deeply than ever to the sound I produce.
But I thank you Karl for that (sincerely)
Rob–lol Mmm…tubes. But seriously (kind of), as long as there’s gotta be valves in stuff, may as well be tube valves! hehe
Joel–The Electrics! Oh, sweet mercy! I totally forgot about them. haha I would say those bands are denying their true Irish roots. And as everyone knows, ‘true Irish roots’ are not flutes, 12/8 timing, or riverdance. Nope. It’s tone.
Shane–thanks, bro! And thanks for not wanting to kill me for giving you that constant tonal dissatisfaction! hehe lol Why do we love the tone search so much?! But I’m glad we do!
Haha, I’m writing a song in 12/8! It’s weird, but I really dig it. It switches between A#maj and A#min, it’s awesome.
Nice! The whole ambiguous major/minor thing is really Irish, too!
Good times!
